JV Rebel football

October 14, 2012
Mike Bengen , Reinbeck Courier

On Monday October 1st the Redhawks made the trip west to take on your Rebels at the Pit. We were ready to go as we were trying to extend a two game winning streak. We have put together a run of some pretty good football. We certainly wanted the same against the rated North Tama program.

We broke out last in the first quarter with an Eric Stokes 4 yard run and then expanded our halftime lead to 14-0 on another Eric 4 yard dive into the endzone. The third quarter was all Rebels. Cam Kickbush added a 6 yard TD run which followed another Eric TD run of 68 yards. We tacked on a text book 45 yard punt return touchdown in the fourth quarter by Bennett Petersen to secure a convincing 36-0 victory. We again were pretty solid in all aspects of the game. Offense, defense, and special teams all played well. These guys are really coming into their own and developing into a very good football team.

We were lead by Cam with 37 yards on the ground and a score and 8 of 17 passing for 125 yards. Eric chipped in another very good showing with 166 yards on 18 carries and 3 touchdowns and 1 catch for 24 yards. Josh Cooley added 4 grabs for 71 yards and Logan Flamme 3 for 54. Our leading tacklers were Ty Eiffler and Cameron Murphy with 8 each and Luke Holman added 7. Ty was in the Redhawk backfield all night as he recorded 4 ? sacks. Dalton Schwartz added 6, Bennett and Brady Kuehl 4, Cam, Logan, and Austin Lott 3, Riley Gilbert and Bryce Ehlers 2, Josh, Brock Bystricky, and Shye Johnston added a stop each. Austin also recovered a fumble for us. Very good effort by these guys on this Monday. We just need to continue to work hard and finish off this year getting better every time out. Nice game guys.

Fresh-Soph Rebel Football

Thursday October 4th brought the Trojans from West Marshall to the Pit for a Fresh-Soph clash. West Marshall and Coach Winkler and his staff are a perennial power each and every year. We know what to always expect form the Trojans. They will come at you for four quarters and they will play hard. We were ready for them.

We started with the ball and we were pretty ineffective. West Marshall jumped on us quickly with a long TD run and a PAT run to jump out to an early 8-0 lead. We countered with a Kainen Hendricks 2 yard run to pull within 8-6 at the end of one. We then added an 18 yard pass from Brady Kuehl to Josh Cooley to go up 12-8. WM reached the end zone right after half to take a 14-12 lead. The second half adjustments made by Coach Skyler Trunck and Coach Kyle Formanek were perfect as we stormed to a rousing 42-14 victory after giving up the long kickoff return. This moves us to 1-2 on the year with one to go. Eric Stoakes accounted for two touchdowns, Brady to Josh for another one, and Kainen hit paydirt for the second time in the third quarter to finish off our run. The second half was really solid for us as we played pretty darn good football.

Cam Murphy led the way with 117 yards rushing and 2 PAT runs along with 5 tackles on defense. Brady threw for 90 yards to go with his 2 scores to Josh. Kainen had a career high of 56 yards on the ground and 2 TD's. Eric had his TD run along with an 84 yard kickoff return to offset the WM return. Eric also led us in tackles with 7 followed closely by Bryce Ehlers with 6. Bryce Clark and Riley Gilbert 5 each, Brady 4, Shye Johnston, Kainen, Josh, and Logan Flamme 2, Bennett Petersen, Jake Mohlis, Jake Schuman, Brock Bystricky, and Carter Murphy each had a stop each to finish off our stat line.

Our last contest will be Monday October 15 at Eldora to take on the South Hardin Tigers. The game will begin at 6 p.m.. This is our last game of the year so we certainly hope to see you on the sidelines.
