November 18, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS Each year the National FFA Organization is proud to honor the FFA members who show the utmost dedication to the organization through their desire to develop their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. That honor, the American FFA Degree, is bestowed upon less than 1% of FFA members for years of academic and professional excellence.

Nicholas Grunklee, an FFA member representing the Gladbrook-Reinbeck FFA Chapter was selected to join the ranks of that exclusive list and was awarded the American FFA Degree at the 85th National FFA Convention on October 27th in Indianapolis. The degree recognizes demonstrated ability and outstanding achievements in agriculture business, production, processing, or service programs. To be eligible, FFA members must have earned and productively invested $7,500 through a supervised agriculture experience program , complete 50 community service hours as well as demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities and community involvement.

While in High school, Grunklee was a chapter officer and competed in many different leadership and career development events. Grunklee was the Northeast Iowa District champion in presenting the FFA Creed as a freshman. In college, Nicholas has continued his advocacy for agriculture. In 2010 he earned the distinction of being the National Winner in the Public Speakers for Agriculture contest while representing Iowa as a member of the Hawkeye Community College Post-secondary Agriculture Students Organization.
