Cedar Valley Hospice welcomes nine new volunteers.

Naaman Haren, 81, Grundy Center, received burns on his hands & face on Dec. 15 when he attempted to back his pick-up from a burning garage.

Sandy K. Richter and Leonard Villitow, Jr. of Texas will be married on Jan. 11, 2003 in Laughlin, Nev.

Jesse Luck Smith earns a degree in Business Administration at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo.

Blake Janssen, 21, Wellsburg, died Dec. 10 of injuries sustained in a car accident.

Clarence H. Walterman, 81, Parkersburg, passed away Dec. 10 at his home.

Howard F. Davis, 91, died Dec. 13 at the Grundy Co. Hospital Long-term Care Unit.

Albin Dvorak, 84, Clutier, died Dec. 15 at Covenant Medical Center.

Melissa Stull, Luther College senior, has been inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, Communication honor society on Nov. 4.

Lisa Helland has been awarded a $100 Achievement Award, a member of the Epsilon Phi Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta Women's Fraternity at Iowa State University.

Reinbeck's newest Main Street business Corner Connections is next to the Corner Cafe.

Mr. & Mrs. Don Ehlers received an early Christmas present of 2.68 million dollars in the Florida lottery. Don is a nephew of Rufus Ehlers, a former resident of Reinbeck.

Linda Petersen, Reinbeck, has been hired as Grundy County Mental Health Coordinator beginning on Dec. 28.

Tena Conradi died Dec. 19 at Parkview Manor of advanced age and pneumonia.

Harold Mooty died Dec. 16 at the Grundy Co. Hospital of cancer.

Renae Hummel and Brian Verduyn were married on Oct. 10 at the First United Methodist Church in Ankeny.

Adraine Penzone and Todd Heithoff were married on Sept. 5.

Michelle Butler and Randy Fogt were married on Dec. 4.



Nancy Mullis, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Keith Brown of Grundy Center, has been promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

Florence Dufel, 68, Hudson, died Dec. 28.

Ken Wignall, 71, Traer, died Dec. 23.

Vera Tupper, 79, Grundy Center, died Dec. 23.

Lyle "Spike" Bean has purchased the old telephone office building from James Westergaard and it has been converted into an apartment.

Maurice "Mike" Mitchell and Dean Nelson will hold a complete closing-out sale on Jan. 9.

Irwin Staker will hold a closing out sale on Jan. 12.


JAN. 1963

Rev. Robert Collins of Temple, Ark. will be the new pastor at the U.C.C. Church in Reinbeck.

Robert Stephan has purchased the D-X station and the Koffee Corner from David & Ruth Smoldt.

Carl Mulder, 69, retired mailman, died on Dec. 26.

Dave "Duff" Roberts has joined his dad, Sheridan Roberts, in Roberts Electrical Service in Reinbeck.

John Moore has opened his new electrical shop in Reinbeck.


JAN. 1953

501 new cars and 69 trucks and pick-ups sold in the county during the last year.

Mr. & Mrs. Robert Brandt are parents of a daughter born Dec. 28.

Margery Stevenson, Traer, and Marvin Wrage were married on Dec. 27.

Tobias DeVries, Zaneta, will have a closing out sale on Jan, 6.

Royal Johnson, Lincoln, will have a closing out sale on Jan. 5.

Emil Linder, Reinbeck, will have a closing out sale on Jan. 8.


JAN. 1943

718 Grundy Co. boys are now serving in the Armed Forces with 119 from Reinbeck.

Georgia Stock of Morrison was married to Fred Scovel on Dec. 1.

Geraldine, 9, month old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Mike Catherwood died Dec. 28 of pneumonia.

Mr. & Mrs. Verne Lowe, Morrison, are parents of a daughter born Dec. 22.

A large barn on the James Petersen farm 4 miles east of Dike, caught fire and completely burned down.
