NICL honor band

December 30, 2012
Cole Goos - G-R student , Reinbeck Courier

NICL Honor Band was held on November 13, 2012, at the South Hardin High School. Honor Band is where students go to a school and play their instrument with many other schools.

Schools that participated include: South Tama, BCLUW, Union, South Hardin, East Marshall and Gladbrook Reinbeck. There was a total of 145 students. Students left at the beginning of normal class and went to South Hardin. They practiced all morning and afternoon and had a concert at 7:00 p.m. Students were placed in two categories, Red and Black Band. Red Band got to practice right when they got there and Black Band had to audition for seats right away.

When you audition the judge told you what seat you got after the audition. Seat numbers include 1, 2, 3, and so on. You get 1 if you had the best audition or play first part for your instrument meaning you play the top notes. Here's a list of G-R students who participated and which band they were in. Red Band: Cortney Crozier: Alto Saxophone; Tyler Wrage: Tuba; Kayla Fobian: Clarinet; Amy Goettsch: Clarinet; Brittany Yates: Clarinet; Shelby Yates: Trumpet. Black Band: Megan Weber: Trumpet; Emily Goettsch: Trumpet; Carley Crozier: Trumpet; Jesse Royer: Trumpet; Cole Goos: French Horn; Cody Ward: Percussion; Breanna Schlichtmann: Percussion; Kayla Gutknecht: Flute/Piccolo . Our band director, Mr. Reynolds, also attended.

The concert started off with the Red Band and then proceeded by the Black Band. We also got to experience a performance by the band directors of each school that attended. It included french horn, flute, clarinet, piano, and a tenor saxophone which was played by Mr. Reynolds.

The students had a lot of fun and made new friends. NICL Honor Band is a lifetime experience and I encourage that younger people who are in band want to have this experience. Also adults should go and see this performance if they are interested. Keep reading the newspaper for more upcoming band gigs.
