Food preservation 101 class to be held in Grundy Center on May 9

Grundy County Extension and Outreach & Kling Memorial Library are joining together to offer an introductory food preservation class. This program will be led by ISU Families Nutrition and Health Program Specialist, Nancy Clark.

Class participants will learn how to use a boiling water canner and a pressure canner. The class will teach the basics of what is safe, what's not safe and how to avoid major mishaps when canning and storing fresh foods. Get the most up-to-date information on canning and freezing tomatoes, fruits, vegetables, making fruit spreads, pickles and pickle products and canning meat, poultry, wild game and fish.

Class will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 7:00 8:00 p.m. at Kling Memorial Library.

This program is being offered at no charge thanks to generous donations by Kling Memorial Library and Grundy County Extension & Outreach. Please call the Grundy County Extension office at 319-824-6979 to register. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required.

Earlier in the day on May 9, 2013 the Grundy County Extension & Outreach office will also be offering dial gauge pressure canner testing from 2:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. at the Extension office, 703 F Avenue, Suite 1, Grundy Center, Iowa. Please call ahead for details.
