Due to the weather, the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Boys Track Team competed in the lone meet for both squads last week. Fortunately, the boys competed on Monday in one of the best days of the year. We are all hoping we can see a few more of those days in the near future.
As always, the Jesup Invite is loaded with talent. The Rebels competed in the small school division of the meet and placed 2nd overall with 86 points. Wapsie Valley took home the team title with 161.5 points. Look for the Warriors to contend for the Class 1A team title in a few weeks.
Once again, the G-R boys saw individual improvements in several events. Eric Stoakes and Wyatt Swanson placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 400M dash with times of 53.61 and 53.96. Swanson won the 800M run with a time of 2:08, while Stoakes won the 400M low hurdles with a time of 58.49. Zach Pierce threw 43' 10.5" and placed 3rd, which is a personal best for him. And once again, Chase Clark took the high jump title home with a leap up 5' 8".
Zach Pierce throws the shot put at Wartburg in the NICL Indoor Meet that was in late March.
This was a great meet for the boys to see where they stood. Starmont and Wapsie Valley are always tough. For us to place 2nd overall comfortably (by over 20 points), I was very encouraged. We are also seeing lots of improvement. Now we need the weather to cooperate and to get some meets in.
Other highlights from the meet: 2nd Place - 4x400 team of Trevor Trunck, Chase Clark, Jackson Clark, and Wyatt Swanson (3:41.91). 2nd Place Shuttle Hurdle Team of Phil Zimmerman, Chase Clark, Trevor Trunck, and Eric Stoakes (1:07.59). 4th Place 1600 Medley Team of Jeff Tscherter, Colton Dinsdale, Jake Peters, and Austin Lott (4:17). 4th Place 4x200 Team of Trevor Trunck, Phil Zimmerman, Chase Clark, and Jackson Clark (1:37.57). 4th Place 1600M Run Tyler Bovy (5:16). 5th Place Shot Put Joey Linder (38' 2"). 5th Place Discus Joe Zimmerman (109' 2"). 5th Place Long Jump Blake Kibe (18')
