Pre-diabetes class to be held in Grundy Center

Pre-diabetes is a condition affecting nearly 79 million Americans. Pre-diabetes sharply raises the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and increases the risk of heart disease by 50 percent. Pre-diabetes is a condition where the amount of sugar in the blood stream is higher than normal, but not high enough to be considered diabetic. It may be called pre-diabetes, impaired glucose tolerance or impaired fasting glucose. It is now possible to be screened for pre-diabetes.

Grundy County Extension & Outreach, in partnership with the Grundy Center YMCA are offering a Pre-diabetes: Am I at Risk? class on January 22, 2014 at the Grundy Center High School Auditorium from 6:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m.

ISU Extension and Outreach Nutrition and Health Program Specialist Nancy Clark; R.D., L.D. will discuss the risk factors for pre-diabetes and how to lower that risk through lifestyle changes.
