G-R 8th grade boys basketball

January 26, 2014
Coach Steve Luethje , Reinbeck Courier

Tuesday, Jan. 14, G-R 8th grade Boys Basketball played a home game verses AGWSR. We likely played our best ball game of the season so far, as our players were ready to play and we played some excellent ball. We took 47 shots making 19 = 40% team percentage night, plus we had 24 defensive steals against them, for our best all-around game of season. We won the contest 43-23 and hopefully this type of play will continue for rest of our season. Our record is now 5-2 on season, our upcoming schedule is: Jan. 20th @ E. Marshall (Gilman), Jan. 23rd @ BCLUW (Union), Jan 27th home (Gladbrook) vs. W. Marshall, Jan 28th home (Gladbrook) vs. GMG, with a starting time of 4:15 p.m. for 8th graders. Leading the Rebels in this contest with AGWSR was four players Caden Kickbush 11 points, Matt Johansen 10 pts, and 9 steals, Mason Skovgard 8 points & 0 turnovers, Walker These 6 pts & 6 steals & 0 turn over game followed by Kyle Koppen, Josh Petersen, Hunter Smoldt, and Owen Beach all with 2 points each. Also contribution just as importantly was Joel Davis 1 steal and Will Blakesley 1 rebound game. Bryce Schick and Gage Murty did not play, hoping to get both back soon!

Thursday, Jan. 16, G-R 8th grade Boys Basketball played a home game verses South Hardin (Eldora, New Providence, Hubbard, Radcliffe) we won the game 45-26 and improve to 6-2 on season. We came out a little slow, and we did not play our best ball in the first half only leading 19-15 at half with many players in foul trouble. We responded with a strong 3rd and 4th quarters, going on a 13 to 5 run in 3rd quarter and a 13 to 6 run in 4th. Our players faced some diversity in this game and as winners always do found a way to pull it out. Nicely done in the second half was this game story here, we will become better student athletes from our lessons learned, tonight. Leading the young Rebels were Caden Kickbush 18 pts, followed by Mason Skovgard 9 pts, Matt Johannsen 7 pts, Kyle Koppen 5 pts, Walker Thede 4 pts, Gage Murty 2 pts (still not playing at 100% from a leg injury). Other players contributing with 1 rebound each were Owen Beach, Will Blakesley, and Joel Davis. With Josh Peterson, Hunter Smoldt helping us secure our win, with good team play and ball movement. Upcoming schedule is Jan. 20th @ E. Marshall (Gilman), Jan. 23rd @ BCLUW (Union), Jan 27th home (Gladbrook) vs. W. Marshall, Jan 28th home (Gladbrook) vs. GMG, with a starting time of 4:15 p.m. for 8th graders.
