Brandon John Bolin graduated December 21, 2013 from the University of Northern Iowa. His parents are David and Mary (Knaack) Bolin of Ankeny. He is the grandson of Melvin Knaack and the late Mina Knaack of Gladbrook, and the late Vernon and Rae Jean Bolin of Reinbeck.
With highest honors, he graduated Summa Cum Laude, top three percent of his class, from the College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences. Brandon earned a BA degree in education with a major in English and a minor in Literacy Education.
While at UNI, Brandon received numerous scholarships and awards including: Community College Scholar Scholarship; UNI Dean's List each of the five semesters while earning his BA degree from the Department of English Languages and Literatures; 2011 Writing Award of Excellence for his Literary Nonfiction, Personal Essay entitled Creek Wars; 2011 English-Teaching Scholarship for Academic Excellence; 2012 Scholarship in English-Teaching; 2012 Grace Ann & Theodore Hovet Study Abroad Scholarship for Academic Excellence within an English-Teaching major; 2013 Scholarship in English-Teaching, Dean's Award CHFA; 2013 UNI College of Education Mondloch Quasi-Endowed Scholarship; Fall 2012-Completed a five month teaching internship in South Korea through the TaLK (Teach and Learn in Korea) Program; 2013-Nominated and with UNI faculty affirmation, was invited to join Sigma Tau Delta receiving an honor cord. This International English Honor Society recognizes high achievement in the studies of English language and literature and encourages creative and critical writing.
Brandon is a 2008 Graduate with Distinction from Ankeny High School. In 2009, he earned his Associate in Arts degree from Des Moines Area Community College, making the President's List with a 4.00 GPA each of the three semesters. Brandon resides in Ankeny, Iowa and will pursue a teaching position in secondary education.
