Rebels fall to Trojans in finale

February 9, 2014
Coach Buskohl , Reinbeck Courier

On January 31, 2014 the 2013-14 G-R 7th grade Boys Basketball team hosted the Trojans from West Marshall in their season finale. A fine rendition of the national anthem performed by chorus members of the team along with their coach preceded the game and was well done, Thank you guys!

The Rebels were challenged on the night as West Marshall had defeated them earlier in the year by a wide margin. The Rebels started slow as they could only manage to score 2 points while the Trojans jumped out with eleven points. The second quarter was not much better for the Rebels as they dug a deeper hole trailing 31-6 at halftime.

A much determined Rebel team started the third quarter and held the Trojans to two points while finding the bottom of the net and trailing 33-17 at the end of the third quarter. Throughout the season it is a goal to see that every player scores. The fourth quarter went back and forth and every Rebel played some of their best basketball of the season. With one second let, our last player not to score hit his first basket of the year. In the end the Rebels fell with a 45-27 score.

This ended our year with a 3-9 record and motivation to improve. This is one of the most enjoyable teams I have had to work with in my many years of coaching and I thank them.

Scoring were the following Rebels:

*Kaleb Hendricks - 6 points

*Tyson Creswell - 3 points

*Ethan Beach - 2 points

*Jackson Kliburis - 14 points

*Alex Whitney - 2 points
