G-R 8th grade boys basketball

February 16, 2014
Coach Steve Luethje , Reinbeck Courier

Tues., Jan. 28, G-R 8th grade Boys Basketball played GMG in Gladbrook and won 47-13, now 8-3 on season. We had a season high 27 steals with only 3 turnovers effort and the game got shortened with the 35 point spread continual clock in effect. The young Rebels had three players reach double figures: Caden Kickbush 15 pts, Walker Thede 12 pts, Gage Murty 11 pts followed by Matt Johannsen 8 pts and Mason Skovgard 1 point, but just as importantly were others contributions: Kyle Koppen 4 steals & 3 rebounds, Hunter Smoldt 2 rebounds, Owen Beach 3 steals, Will Blakesley 4 rebounds and Joel Davis 1 steal to help secure this win. Josh Peterson and Bryce Schick did not play. This game was followed by our 7th graders who now won 3 games in row.

Friday, Jan. 31st, G-R 8th grade Boys Basketball team closed out the season by taking on West Marshall (State Center) on our home court. We won 36-35, and finished our season 9-3. We got up by 14 points but the Trojan's full court defense late caused many turnover issues for us. Our players made some up tempo mistakes but these young Rebels are not going to back down from anyone. The Rebels were led by Caden Kickbush 23 points, Walker Thede 8 points, Gage Murty 5 points, Mason Skovgard 1 point. I like to thank everyone who helped out this season and 7th grade coach Dave Buskohl, 7th grade girls coach Andy McQuillen, 8th grade girls coach Katie Bauder, A.D. John Olson, our home game concession stands workers, our many score keepers, stats keepers and our parents for your time and help making this another successful 8th grade season. Best of luck goes out this 8th grade players as I know you will be fun to watch in High School!
