Surprise in Oregon

I was teaching Avionics in an F101 Squadron. A Commander from a mountainside Radar site called me and asked if I taught Transistors. He added that he was short of technicians and couldn't send them to Texas and then be even more short of needed specialist. Transistors were the new devices in the science of electronics.

He needed to send some technicians to school but could only send 2 at a time. I outlined our course and he was delighted. I suggested we keep it simple and don't get different commands involved. I was in Air Training Command and teaching Air Defense students. His students will graduate with an Air Force diploma.

The students arrived and I briefed them on the course. Then I asked if they had any questions before we get started.

A student in the back asked, "Are you from Iowa?"

"Yes, I said."

He smiled and said, "I am Danny Robertson."

"Wow! You were wearing diapers the last time I saw you."

I have a few stories from 26 years in the Air Force.
