REINBECK - Joe Smoldt went 13-for-13 at the free-throw line and made four 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 37 points, leading the No. 4 Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys' basketball team to a 78-55 victory against Grundy Center in Thursday's Class 1A District 6 quarterfinal.
Smoldt also finished with nine assists and five steals for the Rebels (21-2), who will host Tuesday's district semifinals. Caden Kickbush contributed 18 points, also making four 3-pointers, while Tyler Pierce had six points and a team-leading nine rebounds. Matt Roeding added six points and six boards for G-R, which led 43-25 at the half.
Braidan Buhrow paced Grundy Center (6-17) with 12 points. Chase Boren and Bryce Flater both scored eight points, and Jared Krausman chipped in with seven.
