Mustangs lead locals at Lady Simons Relays

DIKE - McKaylie Coleman scored eight team points on a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, leading the East Marshall girls' track and field team to a third-place finish (69 points) Tuesday at the Lady Simons Relays.

Coleman ran a 1 minute, 12.16 second-race, finishing behind BCLUW's Jenna Willett. Gracie Overton grabbed three points from a sixth-place finish in the 100 hurdles (19.61) and a seventh-place finish in the 400 hurdles (1:24.64) for five total points.

Melinda Puumala was fourth in the long jump, going for 15 feet, 3 inches.

The Grundy Center girls took fourth with 67 team points, and were led by the 4200 relay that set a new school record.

Kyah Luhring, Brooke Flater, Landry Luhring and Hailey Wallis ran a 1:50.35 relay to take first and propel them to the top of the Spartans' leaderboard in that event. Baylee Potkins picked up a fourth-place finish in the 400 hurdles (1:14.97) and fifth in the 100 hurdles (18.07) to help her nine points, leading the Spartans. Their sprint medley team also took first in 1:56.63, besting Union (1:58.27) and Janesville (1:59.27).

GMG totaled 59 points for sixth place, led by Kyla Wilkening's 16 team points. The GMG junior was second in the 1,500 (5:22.70) and the 3,000 (11:18.95). Belle Duncan was fourth in the 1,500 as well, in a t 5:46.03.

Katie Airey was fourth in the 100 (13.77) and Sydney Sorem took fifth in the shot put (31-10).

Emma Gourley and Brylie Zeisness paced the South Hardin girls along with 16 points apiece, as the Tigers posted 50 to take eighth Tuesday.

Gourley was second in the 400 (1:02.86) and second in the 200 (27.78). Zeisness won the shot put (38-10) and was third in the discus (109-8 1/2).

Willett's time of 1:08.87 was good enough for first place in the 400 hurdles. She was also seventh in the long jump (15-00 1/2). Olivia Hughes took third for BCLUW, which finished ninth (49.5 points), in the 100 hurdles (17.33) as well.

Shelby McKinley led North Tama with three points, giving the Redhawks a 12th-place finish with six total.

McKinley was sixth in the 800 (2:42.15) as the area's top finisher. The 4800 relay took sixth as well in a time of 13:50.19.
