Dear Editor

After hearing of the City Council's approval of the daycare expansion request for nearly $200,000.00, I concluded that Reinbeck has once again turned back into a town that believes it has more money than it really has. It was the practice of putting money into the hands of anyone requesting it that helped bring this city to near financial ruin just a few years ago. Now, when there is finally a small light at the end of the tunnel, four of our council members voted for extinguishing this light. How can these four, knowing full well where the city stands financially, ever explain their votes?

The City Council should have brought this entire matter to a city wide vote or loaned the money to the daycare expansion committee. Now, in simply giving the money to the daycare expansion, they have opened the door for any other non-profit organization to stand before it with its hand out. How can they not approve such request without showing discrimination?

I now believe the group advocating a fitness center in Reinbeck should stand before our City Council again and ask for their fair share of the money we, as taxpayers, put into the city's coffers. Why not, we seem to have an abundance of money!

I still am utterly flabbergasted at the mindset of the four council members we elected thinking this town needs a $1,500,000.00 daycare and that the city has enough financial resources to support it. Show me the logic in this.

Look out Reinbeck because the financial train wreck we avoided the last time may be about to happen!
