Kids may still sign up for summer reading this year. The program is open to all children who were in the sixth grade and below this year, including children not yet in school. Everyone who signs up receives a book of their choice from a selection, and a chance at winning other prizes in a drawing after the program is over. These prizes include two Melissa and Doug products donated by the Reinbeck Pharmacy: a wooden farm set and a race car set. We also have an American Girl type doll with a boxful of clothes made by Lee Kopper of Waukee; some fidget spinners, a Lego City Build Your Own Adventure set, a Chubby Puppy, Fur Real Roxie and a Lego Angry Birds set.

The program lasts until July 15th, at which time all reading logs need to be turned in. We have two upcoming events which will both take place at the Memorial Building: Wednesday, June 28 at 3:00 will be Pint Size Polkas by Mike Schneider and Tuesday, July 11 at 4:00 will be a program by Blank Park Zoo. Both events are free and open to the public.

The public is also invited to join us for a program at Westview Estates on Tuesday, June 30 at 2:00.

Author Chad Lewis presents: Iowa's Most Haunted Locations. This is a free program open to all ages.

Two more things:

One: Our van service for interlibrary loan through AEA 267 ended for good with this school year. For many years, we had this free service weekly during the school year, and twice a month during the summer. The service has been discontinued for all public libraries as of this year. This means that we now pay postage to mail back all interlibrary loan materials. To help with expenses, we put up a donations jar at the desk. We appreciate all contributions to help with this project.

Two: Due to budget cuts, the library will now cut back on Saturday hours. We will close at 4:00 p.m. Beginning with the fiscal year, July 1, our hours will be Monday: 11-5, Tuesday: 11-5, Wednesday: 11-6, Thursday: 11-6, Friday 11 -5, Saturday: 11-4.
