Council holds illegal session. Three closed sessions were conducted in accordance with Chapter 21 of the Code of Iowa. Jan Harris tendered her resignation immediately at the council meeting. An ad was placed for two part-time city hall employees.

Grundy Co. Attorney Brad Harris has been nominated to fill the Northeast Iowa District Judgeship.

Reinbeck council discusses traffic and parking issues.

Grundy Center man, John Pratt, was arrested on July 3 and charged with two counts of burglary.

Mr. & Mrs. Russ Lorenzen, Ventura, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house on July 15.

Grundy Hospital announces the opening of a wound clinic.

Matt & Jessica Thede will take part in a Mission trip to Kyrgysta.

Mr. & Mrs. Ryan Bru, Gladbrook, are parents of a son born June 25.

A. Allen McKenley, 92, Traer, died July 5 at Allen Hospital.

Etta Frink, 78, Yuba City, Calif., formerly of Reinbeck, died July 5 at home.

JULY 14, 1997

Grundy County jail costs continue to grow according to Sheriff Rick Penning.

Julie Thesing & David Harberts were married June 7.

Leona Plaehn, 94, Reinbeck, died July 6 at Parkview Manor.

Mr. & Mrs. Shane Schuman are parents of a son born July 2.


JULY 16, 1987

Brent Liebert is the new associate of Dr. Harold Taylor.

Early Sunday morning the Reinbeck Fire Department was called to George Schildroth farm located east of Reinbeck, where large bales of hay were burning. It was thought that lightning may have struck and caused them to smolder.

J.F, Brandhorst, 98, Reinbeck, died July 8.

Carrie Keilholz, 93, Volga, died July 12.

Mr. & Mrs. Loren Thede are parents of a son born July 8.

Cynthia Olson & Kent Plaehn were married June 29.

Charles Slessor submitted to back surgery at Covenant Medical Center.


JULY 21, 1977

Work on Reinbeck's new water treatment storage system project has begun to lay more than a mile of new 12" pipes and nearly a mile of 8" water mains.

Jeff Kliebenstein, 15, died at University Hospitals following a gun accident.

Robert Craig, 25, Dike remains in critical condition with severe head injuries and fractures sustained in a motorcycle accident on July 13.

Verna Townsley, 65, Reinbeck, died July 19.

The Rock Island depot was dismantled this past week. It hadn't been used since July of 1973.

John Heerts, 76, Grundy Center, died July 17 at his home of an apparent heart attack.

Mr. & Mrs. Leroy Watson, Waterloo, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on August 1.

Reinbeck Canning Co. began their sweet corn pack early this year.

Mark Foster, 19, Hudson, was killed on July 13 in a car-truck accident head on collision 5 1/2 miles south of Hudson on Hwy #63.


JULY 20, 1967

Reinbeck Library improvements is underway with the heating system being over hauled, new ducts added and air conditioning, new front door and exterior painting.

Reinbeck School to install a new boiler at a cost of $22,745. This unit will replace two boilers and a third will be kept as a standby.

Work is progressing on the new tennis courts. The cost will be an estimated $15,000.

Pioneer has began detasselling about 15 acres of seed corn.

Mr. & Mrs. Arlen Williams are parents of a daughter born July 12.

Dr. & Mrs. W.H. Verduyn & family left on July 19 for a three week vacation in Holland.

Herman Nielsen, 74, former Dike Mayor & businessman, died July 19.

Roy Kelly, 76, Buckingham, died July 16.

Heye Dieken, 68, Grundy Center, was killed in a one car accident on July 14.

Carol Hayungs & Gary D. Smith were married July 7.

Donald Morrison, 49, died July 8 in Moline, Ill.
