Every day tractor ride is coming to Reinbeck!

July 16, 2017
Reinbeck Courier

The tractors, about sixty of them, will arrive in town on HWY?175 at about 3 - 4 p.m. on July, 19. They will come into town from the east headed west. They will rest in Elmwood Park for a bit. That's when you can visit with the drivers.

Darwin Cannegieter came up with the idea of the every day tractor ride in 2013 and went to the Grundy County Farm Bureau board with it. The first year Governor Branstad participated in the ride. Every year Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill participates as his schedule allows, sometimes driving a tractor for part of the ride. Secretary of Ag Bill Northey also tries to participate. This year they are honored to have the American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall from Georgia participating in part of the ride.

Remember, these tractor are not just for parade ready tractors! this is for your oldest running tractor or the tractor you used in the field yesterday. They just ask that if you used it to haul manure yesterday to please give it a bath!

If interested call Darwin at 319-415-5062 for more details.

This group raises funds from sponsors such as banks, seed corn dealers, implement dealers, the drivers, etc. for scholarships for Grundy County youth. The scholarship is called the Mark Pearson Memorial scholarship. So far they have distributed $12,000 to our youth who are going onto agriculture in some form after high school graduation.

Volunteers who help make this ride possible are from Grundy County Farm Bureau board of directors, Grundy County Fair Board and Grundy County Corn and Soybean Growers.

Remember to come out and view the tractors, talk to the drivers and help make their escorted trip to Reinbeck a nice part of the every day tractor ride!
