Donald Edward “Butch” Richter

Donald Edward "Butch" Richter, 93, of Reinbeck, died on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Parkview Manor.

He was born Dec. 6, 1923, in Perry, Iowa, son of Edward and Rose Benz Richter. He married LaVonne Runft on August 22, 1948.

Butch graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1941. He attended UNI for a few years and then began a long career of trucking and farming, hauling cattle to the Chicago Stock Yards every Sunday. He later started Richter Truck Line, along with his brother, Kenneth. His career expanded with raising cattle and farming, and his son, Gary, later joined them.

Survived by his wife, two daughters, Kathy of Overland Park, Kan. and Karen (Allan) of Thousand Oaks, Calif., a son Gary (Laurie) of Reinbeck and a brother, Kenneth (Eileen) of Reinbeck.

The family had a private burial on July 22.

Memorials may be made to the Richter family, who will direct them to the United Methodist Church.

Butch was honored with 64 years of service with Pioneer Hi-Bred International. He loved to fish and for years spent the first part of June fishing on Donald Lake with friends from Chicago and Milwaukee. Winters were spent with his wife in Okeechobee, Fla. and summer weekends on the lake at Lake Pepin, Minn. Butch never retired, he never lost his love of the farm and his morning ritual, coffee with friends.
