Charles “Chuck” William Neil

Charles "Chuck" William Neil, 90, of Plainfield, Iowa, died in his sleep Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.

Chuck was born on August 16, 1926, on the family farm in Tama County, Iowa, the son of Elizabeth (Dann) and J. Martin Neil. He attended country school in Grant Township through eighth grade, and then Dinsdale High School, graduating in 1945. He then farmed on the family farm. On September 21, 1952, Chuck was united in marriage to Eunice A. Baumgartner at St. Sebald Lutheran Church in rural Strawberry Point, Iowa. After leaving the family farm, Chuck worked in agriculture sales and managed Plainfield Mills, before working as an independent insurance sales agent, and retiring in 1995.

Chuck was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly. For enjoyment, he liked to travel, fish and drive his horseless carriage in parades. He liked to visit with others and had a special interest in the Amish. Above all, Chuck loved his family.

Chuck's memory is honored by his wife of nearly sixty-five years, Eunice; three sons, William (Kathy) Neil of Downs, Ill., Timothy (Renee) Neil of Plainfield, Iowa, and John (Teri) Neil of Independence, Iowa; three grandsons, Matthew (Erica), David (Rahma), and Brandon (Katie); one great grandson, Truman; one great granddaughter on the way; and one sister Jean Wittgreve of Reinbeck, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, John Wittgreve.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, with Pastors Nancy Larson and Paul Schaedig officiating. Burial followed at Amity Cemetery, rural Reinbeck. Visitation was held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials may be directed the family for later designation and online condolences may be left at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is assisting the family.
