No more waiting!

In August, I wrote about the shower/restroom building at Wolf Creek Recreation Area near Beaman. I briefly discussed the progress and gave a Labor Day target date.

However, I believe in discussing this project I covered myself by saying something like, "Don't get out the tar and feathers if it doesn't happen." I've learned to throw in disclaimers from years of experiences. Well, if you check the calendar, you will see that Labor Day is past. The facility at Wolf Creek did not meet that target. It was close but they say that close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

I am extremely happy to be announcing that the shower/restroom is completed. Well, completed enough to open and give it that test for the remainder of the season however long or short that is. This building is a mini version of the facilities at Grundy County Lake campground. It contains two private rooms each containing a shower, toilet and sink. The park drive was changed as to allow campers to exit past the new building and more importantly stop at the new dump station!

In the 37 years that I have listened to camper suggestions, flush toilets/showers and a dump station have topped the list of wants (well, maybe tied with a blacktop road to the park but that is beyond my control!).

What is done and what remains? Our crew has been busy grading around the outside, doing seeding where possible and appropriate with the remainder being left to settle over the winter. Rock has been hauled and spread for some of the parking. More parking will come when the old pit latrine is demolished next year.

Those businesses involved in the project did a great job. Kirk Dinsdale of Dinsdale Construction coordinated these contractors: Cooley Pumping and Sanitation LLC, Konken Electric Inc., Sweerin Concrete, AT Plumbing, Watson's Painting, Moeller & Walter LTC and the Grundy County REC. I appreciate everyone involved for their quality of work and cooperation!

Personally, I am pleased with the look of the building and have had many similar comments and compliments from park visitors. It fits the look of the park to a tee. I invite you to take a day trip picnic or a weekend camping trip to Wolf Creek Recreation Area and check out the newest addition.
