Dear Editor,

I got a call today asking me to donate to the Dollars for Scholars. I have always donated to that effort and believe it is well worth my money. But, that call got me to thinking. Maybe our city should donate to Dollars for Scholars. After all, since Dollars for Scholars is a yearly service that touches virtually every graduating student, there are actually more students receiving that service than those using the daycare service. Isn't it true that the daycare service is no more an official part of our school system than Dollars for Scholars? That puts each of them on par with regard to our school system. And yet our city representatives continue to fund the daycare expansion project and not Dollars for Scholars. As individuals we can financially support whatever we want with our money. When considering our city, however, it must take care of its business instead of funding anything that is not a city service. As I have said before, our City Council's lack of setting proper priorities and their failures to represent the majority of our citizens are misguided. Talk to your council members and have them explain their actions.
