News from the Black Hawk Nighthawks 4H club

December 31, 2017
Kaylee Young , Reinbeck Courier

On Monday, December 4th, the Black Hawk Nighthawks did not hold a monthly meeting, instead they headed over to the Westview Apartments in Reinbeck, Iowa. While there, the club members had the chance to chat with the residents that came downstairs. To get to know each other each member or resident received a piece of paper asking a question that somehow related to Christmas. They would then answer the question out loud. The question would be for example, "What is the best gift you have ever received?" or "What is your favorite Christmas memory?"

After everyone around the room had answered their question, the members of the 4-H club entertained the residents with a game where the residents were the judges. The members split into two teams and each got a tote. Within that tote there were multiple different items related to Christmas, there was also one tote that both teams could use. Each team's task with their items was to create a Christmas scene or something that resembled Christmas. Within ten minutes the teams planned and figured out what they were going to do. One team prepared "Twas the Night Before Christmas" scene while the other team created a nativity scene.

Once the contest was over, snacks were prepared and the residents enjoyed them with the 4-H members. While snacking, members Emma Fleshner & Elly Sieh sang the song "Hallelujah" by Pentatonix. After the two girls finished singing, we had volunteers play charades while everyone else in the room guessed what they were doing. After charades everyone finished their snacks and the visit came to an end. Our next meeting will be Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the G-R Elementary Media Center.
