August 30, 2018
Reinbeck Courier
AMES, IA — Ashley Moore, from Reinbeck, majoring in Agronomy, was a part of the third place John Deere Signature Award winning Iowa State University National Agri-Marketing Association (ISU NAMA) Student Chapter. The award was presented to chapter members attending the 2018 Agri-Marketing Conference April 11-13 in Kansas City, MO. The John Deere Signature Award is based on a points system, given for achievement and involvement in several categories. First is the student chapter, with points based on chapter membership and participation, projects and activities. ISU NAMA has over 30 members. Moore was 1st Vice President of the student chapter during the 2017-2018 academic year. As 1st Vice President, Moore is responsible for overseeing all Chapter programs and recording them for use in the Annual Report. Second, participation in the marketing team competition. Students act as an agency to build a marketing plan for a new agricultural product, commodity or service. Team members pitch the plan to judges who act as the company’s board of directors. This year, the ISU NAMA marketing team’s product was grainXact, an auger-mounted x-ray system which measures flowing grain volumes as well as calculates grain bin inventory. The marketing team finished as one of the top 12 teams, competing against 28 other student teams. Moore was a member of this year’s marketing team. Third is applying for and receiving scholarships from the NAMA Foundation. Two Iowa State students received scholarships from the organization for the 2018-2019 academic year. Finally, receiving other national chapter awards. At the conference, the ISU NAMA Student Chapter also received second place Outstanding Student Chapter, based on an annual report of activities which showcases the chapter’s many opportunities and activities throughout the academic year. Additionally, the chapter received two out of six Chapter Performance Awards, the Fundraising/Financial Management and Chapter Communications awards. Performance awards recognize chapters in different categories for unique ideas that engage students and improve the chapter. Each student chapter is sponsored by a NAMA Professional Chapter who serves as a resource throughout the year for professional development, networking, and assistance in building the student team competition marketing plan. In recognition of their support of and interaction with the student chapter, the Iowa NAMA Professional Chapter received the Outstanding Professional Chapter Award, based on the nomination completed by the ISU NAMA Student Chapter. The chapter is advised by Amanda Blair and Marcie Fahn.
