10 YEARS AGO SEPT. 18, 2008 Local P.A. Gregory Randolph, receives National Recognition as AAPA Distinguished Fellow. G-R Homecoming candidates are: Brent Bengen, Scott Benson, Jordon Bledsoe, Ethan Charley & Zach McCarthy. Rose Koester, Victoria Schwartz, Keisha Smith, Nicole Vieth & Shannon Williams. Chris Allen & Kody Dinsdale are on the Simpson College Soccer team. Jordon Bledsoe has achieved his Eagle Scout Award. His Court of Honor will be held Oct. 19 at the United Methodist Church in Gladbrook. Shawn Weber received an Appreciation Plague for one year deployment to Kosovo.Shawn is employed at the Grundy Co. Engineers Office. Ross Lage received his 20 year service award. He is employed with the Grundy Co,. Secondary Road Department as a mechanic. Jerry Sharp received his 20 year service award. He is employed as a tandem truck driver. JV volleyball begins their season. 20 YEARS AGO SEPT. 17, 1998 Grundy Co. Citizens release plans for a 12-bed jail. Grundy Co. REC holds 62nd annual meeting on Sept. 19 with 425 in attendance. Carol Whitcomb, 78, died at the Grundy Hospital. Harriett Gravant. 75. Traer. died Sept. 5 at Covenant Medical Center. Antonio Drinovsky, 85, Traer, died Sept. 7 at Sunrise Hill Care Center. Patsy Miller, 65, Dike, died Sept. 13 at her home. Wayne Kinsinger, 75, Grundy Center, died Sept. 13 at his home. Bill Schultz, Reinbeck, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Aid Ass’n for Lutherans. Bill is a sophomore at Concordia Un. in Seward, NE. Kimberly Clapp & Anthony Conklin were married July 18 in West Des Moines. Patti Keller & Steven Martens were married Aug. 1 at the Methodist Church Rev. Clell Hickman was honored with the title of Pastor Emeritus of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. & Mrs. Robert Good, Phoenix, AZ. are parents of a daughter born Aug. 13. Mr. & Mrs. Bob Crombie, Waukegan, IL. are parents of a daughter. Jeff Dralle, Greene, was elected to serve on LSB Board of Directors. 30 YEARS AGO SEPT. 22. 1088 Newly elected school board members are Bill Creswell & Steve Robertson. Other members are: Frank Wyatt, Mark Schildroth, Merle Lynch and Art Koht. Helen Stickfort, 85, Grundy Center, died Sept. 15. Thelma Meggers, 77, Grundy Center, died Sept. 14. Dwight Heltibridle, 72, Grundy Center, died Sept. 17 of an apparent heart attack. C. Wilbur Bakker, 84, Grundy Center, died Sept. 16. Mr. & Mrs. Dean Pettit, Grundy Center, are parents of a daughter born Sept. 8. Mr. & Mrs. Tom Pippert are parents of a daughter born Sept. 13. Theresa Lllienthal & Lonn Koch were married Aug. 27. Ida Dohrman, formerly of Reinbeck, will celebrate her 100 birthday on Sept. 26. 40 YEARS AGO SEPT. 28, 1978 Mr. & Mrs. Harry Wach are parents of a daughter born Sept. 23. Mr. & Mrs. Marlin Petersen are parents of a son born Sept. 16. Mr. & Mrs. John Egesdal are parents of a daughter born Sept. 15. Mr. & Mrs. Kent Creswell are parents of son born Sept. 12. Gerald Olltman, 24, Dike, was fatally injured in a 2 car accident on Sept. 23 on Hwy 57. Tena Creswell was a $400 winner in Ernie’s Bankroll drawing. Tom Hansen, Reinbeck police officer since 1969, was dismissed by Mayor Tom Emmett after he refused to perform law enforcement duties as set out by the city council Fannie Dirks, 89, Grundy Center, died Sept. 20 at the Grundy Hospital. Bob Greiner, Reinbdeck, escaped serious injury when his right hand got caught in an auger on Sept. 21. United Methodist Church will observe 100 years of growth & service to Reinbeck on Oct. 8. 50 YEARS AGO SEPT. 26, 1968 Paul Downs, Waterloo, has been hired to serve as policeman along with Geo Studyvin. Stuart Petersen is having a grand opening of his Gulf Ser. Station. Arthur Schmidt received the 110,000th installation of a General Telephone system. The installation was made by Bill Kielly. Richard Rickert, Reinbeck, was among Iowans inducted into the U.S. Army at Fort Des Moines Induction Center and was sent to Fort Polk for basic training. C. Sofus Larsen, 86, died Sept. 24. Gail Lovell & Ronald Fink were married Sept. 7. Gary Sivertsen. son of Mr. & Mrs. Mel Volker, received his discharge from the Army at Fort Riley, KS. on Sept. 6.
