10 YEARS AGO 10/16/08 Friends & neighbors, 15 combines and grain trucks hauled away the harvest for Randy Ohrt who is battling cancer. Whitney Lyon & Tiffany Petersen, both from Reinbeck, are members of the Buena Vista University concert choir. Shalane Peterson attends Dana College in Blair, NE. and is a member of the Dana dance team. Alexandria Keller, 3, Morrison, died Oct. 8 at University of Iowa Hospital. 20 YEARS AGO 10/15/1998 Local option tax to be voted on in the Nov. 3 general election. Deena Storey & Brent Beichley were elected Homecoming King & Queen. Mr. & Mrs. Mel Conradi will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Oct. 19. Harold Fogt will celebrate his 91st birthday with a card shower on Oct. 19. Emil Karkosh, 90, Reinbeck, died Oct. 7 at Parkview. James Gill, 69, Waterloo, died Oct. 9. Margene Heneman, 70, Garwin, died Oct. 6 at the Marshalltown Medical Center. 30 YEARS AGO OC T. 20, 1988 Reinbeck’s First United Presbyterian Church will celebrate 90 years of service on Oct. 23. A single vehicle accident occurred Saturday a.m. in Morrison on the property of Wayne Haskovec when Richard Aumann, 20, was westbound on Hwy #175 when he lost control, skidded sideways thru a ditch, snapped off 2 large trees and hit a pile of logs. He died at the scene and his passenger Edward Swinton, 21, is in critical condition. The former Jim Denning bldg. on the corner of Main & Broad is the new home for Bumper to Bumper Store. Reinbeck Auto Parts on Hwy #175 is under new management as a full service station operated by Bruce Stephan. Mr. & Mrs. Mike Neiland are parents of a son born Oct. 6. Mr. & Mrs. LaVerne Bown are parents of a daughter born Oct. 7. Mr. & Mrs. Mark Reinig are parents of a daughter born Oct. 11. Mr. & Mrs. Kent Sorensen, Brooklyn, are parents of daughter born Oct. 14. 40 YEARS AGO OCT. 26, 1978 Leon Small, Waterloo, will be the new Ford-Mercury dealer in Grundy Center. Robert Cavanaugh, 22, died Oct. 17 of injuries in a auto accident on Oct. 16. Funeral services for Mayme Petersen, 92, were held Oct. 25. Arlene Nehring, representing the Reinbeck FFA, won the District Soil Conservation speech contest and will advance to the regional contest in Mason City on Nov. 16. Mr. & Mrs. Roger Greve are parents of a daughter born Oct. 12. Funeral services for Geo Westergaard, Waterloo, were held Oct. 25. 50 YEARS AGO OCT. 17, 1968 Mr. & Mrs. D.D. Lewis announce they are quitting business and will retire. Mrs. Vern Miller & daughter Patty, have entered ten dolls in the annual Dress-A-Doll contest. All dolls entered in the contest are distributed to needy children at Christmas time. Parkview held their annual open house and bazaar on Oct. 22. Rev & Mrs. Larry Mitchell are parents of a son born Oct. 2. Mr. & Mrs. Dave Abels are parents of a son born Oct. 9. Mr. & Mrs. Keith Davis are parents of ason born Oct. 9 Raynard McGowan, 73, died Oct. 16 of an apparent heart attack
