10 YEARS AGO DEC. 11, 2008 Fritz Cohen, former resident and a graduate of Reinbeck High school, was made an honorary citizen of Ronnenberg, Germany. Bradley Lynch, Grundy Center escaped serious injury on Dec. 7 when he was hit in the chest with a shotgun deer slug. Jessica Eckhoff and Justin Miller were married Oct. 14 in Reinbeck. Shirley Klar, 73, Grundy Center, died Dec. 3. Gala dinner For Grundy Co. Hospital is planned for Feb. 14 at Fox Ridge Golf Club in Dike. 20 YEARS AGO DEC. 10, 1998 John & Mary Dinnes accepted on behalf of Marlys Ehyre, a plaque for her $100,000 donation to the Heritage Center and Ag. Hall project. Phil Ohrt received the Grundy Co. Farm Bureau award in Des Moines on Dec. 2. Phil is the county Farm Bureau president. Connie Miller was one of more than 15 members of Farm Bureau for her efforts to tell agricultural stories held in Des Moines Dec. 2. Karl Strohbehn was elected to serve as a voting delegate to the 1999 Farm Bureau annual meeting in Albuquergue on Jan. 10-14. Terri Siems, 34, Orange City, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Dec. 1 at Covenant Medical Center. Mr. & Mrs. Lynn Fogt, York, NE. are parents of a daughter born Nov. 20. Mr. & Mrs. Rick Morrow, Arlington, TX. are parents pf a son born Nov. 3. Paul Cooley. Grundy Center, addressed the Farm Bureau members at the young farmers banquet held on Dec. 1. 30 YEARS AGO DEC. 15, 1988 A large barn & 5,000 bales of hay were destroyed in a fire at the Elkey DeVries farm. Gary Korte,G-R Jr. has recently been named to the boys 1-A all state cross country track team. On Aug. 31 R.W. “Bob Bicket retired as an active officer of Lincoln Savings bank. The Board of Directors will host a special day of recognition in Bob’s honor on Dec. 16. Mr. & Mrs.Mr. & Mrs. Tom McCrea are parents of a daughter born Dec. 6. Mr. & Mrs. Loren Bowen are parents of a daughter born Nov. 23. Services for Virginia Herron, 80, were held on Dec. 12. Mr. & Mrs. Leo Meewes, formerly of Reinbeck, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Dec. 25. 40 YEARS AGO Dec. 21, 1978 Bill Davidson, vice-president and farm representative for Lincoln Savings Bank has accepted a position with Waterloo Savings Bank and will assume duties there after Jan. 1. Greg Moser escaped serious injury when he apparently fell asleep and drove his car into a ditch east of Lincoln. Congressman Charles Grassley visited with Reinbeck school government class students. Ray Bonacker will celebrate his 80th birthday. Funeral services for Bothilde Storjohann, 91, were held Dec. 18. 50 YEARS AGO DEC. 19, 1968 Otto Knaack, 79, died at his home. Reinbeck Fire Chief, Sheridan Roberts was presented a dalmation puppy by his fellow firemen at the Christmas party.. Dr. W.H. Verduyn was named Grundy Co. Medical Examiner. Gary Robinson, son of Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Robinson, will leave from Des Moines to participate in Central College Yacatan Study Program. Lynette Anderson & James Hartsock were married Dec. 15. Mr. & Mrs. Willis Stickfort are parents of a daughter born Dec . 14. As of Jan. 1 1959 Hwy #58 going thru Reinbeck will become Hwy #175.
