The Reinbeck Public Library is celebrating its Centennial year during the whole year of 2018.

Caden Kickbush piled up 23 points and seven rebounds to help lead the Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys' basketball team to a 62-39 rout of Grundy Center in an NICL West Division contest.

The Class 2A No. 11 Grundy Center girls basketball team won an NICL West Division matchup over Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Tuesday, 73-24.

RebelHawk senior Bronson Wrage closed out a 4-0 day with the 195-pound championship at the Gladbrook-Reinbeck/North Tama Invitational.

Jerry Lee Noltensmeier, 70, of Reinbeck, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2018 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center.

The life of Noah Ohrt will be honored during a fundraiser held Friday, Jan. 26 from 4:30 p.m. to midnight at Lincoln Amvet Hall in the town of Lincoln. Noah passed away on March 8, 2014, after a two year battle with ewing sarcoma. The fundraiser will consist of a silent auction, meal and live entertainment.

Rose Marie "Rosie" Witt, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, January 15, 2018 at Thalmon Square, Western Home Communities, Cedar Falls.

Michael J. Stephan, 61, of Reinbeck, Iowa died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in Reinbeck.

Lynn A. Holman, 69, of Reinbeck, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.

The Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys basketball team won its final NICL West Division game of the season on Friday by taking down BCLUW on the road, 70-31.

The Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls' basketball team suffered their third-straight loss, falling victim to a comeback from Starmont, 53-49, in Thursday's non-conference clash.

Caden Kickbush returned from an ankle injury to score a game-high 25 points as Gladbrook-Reinbeck demolished Starmont 82-34 in Thursday's non-conference contest.

Stanley L. Chvojka, 89, of rural Hudson, Iowa died Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa.

Mary Jo Schreck, 81, of Reinbeck, Iowa, passed away on January 31, 2018 while in the care of Cedar Valley Hospice.

A nurse and dietitian from Grundy County Memorial Hospital's wellness team will be at the Reinbeck Public Library from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20.

The free screening includes blood pressure, cholesterol testing, BMI measurement, and glucose test. Fasting is recommended for ten to twelve hours before your screening.

Results will be shared confidentially, and follow up testing will be recommended as needed. The screening is free with a reservation made by calling the Library, 319-788-2652.

Everyone is invited to take a step toward better health by joining a 'Walk with a Doc' walk in 2018. The program, sponsored locally by Grundy County Memorial Hospital and physician Dr. Eric Neverman, is part of a national movement that pairs physicians with members of their community to encourage regular activity.

The library held a book talk by Dr. Jim Kenyon at Westview on Feb. 6. He has written two books, The Art of Listening to the Heart and A Cow for College.

Marvin J. "Nick" Hamann, 88, of Reinbeck, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018 following a lengthy illness.

Eileen M. Richter, 85 of Reinbeck passed away Monday, Feb. 5 at Covenant Hospital in Waterloo.

The Mill Convenience store made a donation of $1,000 to the Little Rebels Learning Center to go towards the expansion project.

Saturday, March 3, the library will be hosting two big events! The first is a special storytime in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday. Please meet upstairs at 10:00 for a celebration including stories, a craft, a reader's theatre and more!

The second event is a day-long event being held downstairs. The library will have a display of 20+ scrapbooks donated over the years for everyone to peruse on that same day from 11 - 4. There will be coffee and cookies available while you do so. Come and check out some of Reinbeck's history.

Also in during March while students are on spring break the library will be hosting several events just for kids. Follow on Facebook or watch for additional newspaper articles for more information. There will also be posters at Casey's, Trunck's and the library.

The library also is creating a "classic movie" section of dvds. There are around 40 movies collected so far. The American Film Association has a list of "100 Years.100 Movies" and the library is trying to collect as many as possible. Classics such as "Yankee Doodle Dandy," "The African Queen", "Psycho" and Casablanca" are already in the rack as well as more recent titles "The Godfather" and "Schindler's List". Donations of dvds from the list and/or money to help purchase more of these movies are greatly appreciated. Stop in and browse the list of those titles still needed as well as the racks of movies already here.

Anona M. Arends, 97, of Grundy Center, Iowa died Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Arlington Place in Grundy Center, Iowa while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice.

Diane Giesking, 79, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Philip R. Ohrt, 64, of Reinbeck, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Manitee Memorial Hospital in Brandenton, Fla.

Steven Alan Tscherter, 71, of Reinbeck, Iowa, passed away at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa on February 11, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer.

Longtime Reinbeck resident, Diann Helmers is the founder and director of Agape Fosters, a licensed non-profit no-kill pet rescue shelter. Diann owns and operates one of the longest running pet rescue centers in Iowa. Helmers says that Agape Fosters has helped Grundy County for over twenty years and became a shelter in 2006. Agape Fosters helps low-income families spay and neuter their pets.

Margaret Ann Storjohann, 81, of Reinbeck, passed away February 26, 2018 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

This past weekend the library held two special events: Dr. Seuss's birthday party and a viewing of its scrapbook collection. Sixty-three children and family members attended the birthday party where Dr. Seuss books were read, some GR students presented a Reader's Theater play, children made a Cat in the Hat pencil holder and everyone sang Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss and enjoyed cake. In the lower half of the library dozens of scrapbooks were on display for anyone wishing to look thru them. Many patrons chose to do so.

Donna M. Brown, age 86, of Neenah, Wisc.; formerly Reinbeck, Iowa; passed away on Tuesday morning, March 6, 2018 at Elder Lodge in Neenah.

Craig John "Chuck" Thede, 53, of Frisco, Texas, formerly of Reinbeck, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in Texas.

Dean Alan Westberg passed away at the age of 71 years on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Unity Point Health - Allen Memorial Hospital.

Frederick W. "Fred" Strohbehn, 88, of Reinbeck, passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at The Elms Assisted Living in Reinbeck.

Some exciting new changes are happening soon at Tama-Grundy Publishing. In conjunction with the launching of a new sports section during the month of April, beginning April 2 editorial and advertising functions of all Tama-Grundy Publishing newspapers (including the Traer Star-Clipper, Dysart Reporter, Gladbrook Northern Sun-Print and Reinbeck Courier) will be moved to the offices of the Tama News-Herald. John Speer will lead our news team for Tama-Grundy Publishing with three other news people responsible for the various newspapers and markets. Betty Dahms will be responsible for our Gladbrook and Reinbeck newspapers, CJ Eilers will be responsible for our Traer and Dysart newspapers and Allison Graham will continue to be responsible primarily for sports coverage for the Tama and Toledo area.
