10 YEARS AGO JAN. 15. 2009 Grundy Co. Board of Supervisors are sworn into office. Katie Saak and Brent Schmitz are planning a March wedding. Violet Dettmer, 90, Rochester died Jan. 6. 2009. Ernst Petersen, 91, Reinbeck, died Jan. 9 at Covenant Medical Center. 20 YEARS AGO JAN. 14, 1999 Reinbeck now has a two man police dept-Darran Thran and John Barfels. Census Bureau is preparing to hire census takers to obtain address lists for 2000. Don Kliebenstein. County attorney has retired after more than 34 years of service. Lester Beichley, 79, Marshalltown, died Jan. 2 at Oakview Care Center in Conrad. Dora Harms, 98, died Jan. 9 at the Grundy Hospital. Naomi Roberts. 96. Cedar Falls, died Jan 5 at the Western Home in Cedar Falls. 30 YEARS AGO JAN. 18, 1989 Don Keith, Reinbeck Postmaster, is retiring effective Jan. 27. Raymond Appel, 71, Grundy Center, died Jan. 13. Mr. & Mrs. Chris Coulter, Gladbrook, are parents of a daughter born Jan, 12. Nicole Paustain, a senior of G-R was elected as a Senate Page for1989 Iowa Legislative session. Nikki was one of 17 students elected throughout Iowa. 40 YEARS AGO JAN. 25 1979 Ed Odem, Reinbeck, was a $400 winner of the weekly bankroll at Ernie’s Super Valu. Reinbeck City Council voted to give Police Chief Dick Lenius a raise from $12,000 to $14,000. Historical collections of Grundy County & Grundy Co. Conservation are making plans to open the museum in Morrison on March 17. Funeral services for Louis Staker, 77, were held on Jan. 23. Mr. & Mrs. Don DeVore are parents of a daughter born Jan14. Mr. & Mrs. Lester Engel, Gladbrook, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary. Rhonda Ragsdale and Seaman Jeff Royer were married Dec. 28. 50 YEARS AGO JAN 23, 1969 Ward French Grundy Co. Heart Fund Chairman announced that Reinbeck Action Post #242 will sponsor the Grundy Co. Heart Fund Benefit Ball on Feb. 1. Velma Petersen, a senior at Reinbeck School, was named 1969 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow. Grant Price, Director of News for WMT station in Cedar Rapids, will speak at the annual meeting of the Reinbeck Area Council of Churches.
