Comets use balance to beat back G-R REINBECK — Freshman Allison Engle scored a team-leading 10 points as the BCLUW girls’ basketball team topped Gladbrook-Reinbeck 46-32 in NICL West Division play here Friday. Easton Swanson and Jaelyn Allen scored eight points apiece while Bailey Ashton and Katie Thompson each contributed seven points for the Comets (5-7, 3-3), who overcame the absence of their leading scorer and rebounder in Madi Ubben. Engle and Ashton had five rebounds apiece and Thompson had six assists. Taylor Gienger led Gladbrook-Reinbeck (3-8, 1-5) with 13 points and Saari Kuehl had nine points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Rebels, who led 15-6 after the first quarter before BCLUW bounced back to lead 25-23 at half.

No. 10 Falcons rout G-R girls, 85-29 REINBECK — Four players scored in double figures as the Class 2A No. 10 Aplington-Parkersburg girls’ basketball team bounced Gladbrook-Reinbeck 85-29 in Thursday’s cross-NICL contest. Megan Johnson led the visiting Falcons (9-1) with 16 points, Sophia Jungling had 14 points, Jaycie Ellis added 12 points and Jenna Bruns added 10 in the wire-to-wire win. Saari Kuehl came away with 11 points and six rebounds to lead the Rebels (3-7), who suffered their fourth-straight loss. Taylor Gienger added 10 points, while Mahayla Olson and Katie Clark chipped in four points apiece. Aplington-Parkersburg pounces on G-R REINBECK — Carter Cuvelier led all players with 20 points and 12 rebounds to help the Aplington-Parkersburg boys’ basketball team take down Gladbrook-Reinbeck 70-48 in cross-NICL play here Thursday. Aaron Price contributed 14 points for the Falcons (7-2), who led 19-5 after the opening quarter and 38-19 at the half. Jackson Kiburis led Gladbrook-Reinbeck with 15 points and seven assists, while Dylan Riffey chipped in 13 points off the bench for the Rebels (4-3). Colton Clark added eight points and a team-high five rebounds for G-R.
