W. Dwight & Lorraine A. Stone Estate Agriculture Scholarships Awarded

May 30, 2019
Reinbeck Courier
Scholarships were awarded to four Grundy County area students from the W. Dwight & Lorraine A. Stone Estate Trust. The late Mr. & Mrs. Stone owned farmland in Grundy County and it was their wish to award scholarships to students interested in an agriculture career. Yearly rental from the farm were given in a bequest to the Grundy Center Community School District Foundation to establish the scholarships. The scholarships are available to senior students who reside in Grundy County and are pursuing post-secondary education in a field of agriculture, such as animal husbandry, agricultural business, agronomy, agricultural education, agricultural engineering, agriculture technology, veterinary medicine, or any career related to agriculture. The scholarships were made available for the first time in 2014. Each year the Foundation receives several outstanding applications. Along with the application process the qualifying applicants go through an interview process with three Foundation Trustees. The 2019 W. Dwight & Lorraine A. Stone Scholarship recipients are Lily Ehlers, a graduate from the Gladbrook-Reinbeck School District and Jake Ascher, Austin Knaack, and Caleb Kuiper, all graduates of Grundy Center Community School District. The four recipients were each presented with a $5000.00 scholarship award at their Senior Awards night. Lily will be attending Northwest Missouri State University, Jake is going to Hawkeye Community College; and Caleb and Austin are headed to Central College in Pella. The GCCSD Foundation wishes these students’ success in the pursuit of their chosen agriculture field of study.
