10 YEARS AGO JULY 9, 2009 Mr. & Mrs. Paul Ehrig will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on July 11. Shirley Fulkerson will celebrate her 95th birthday on July 11,. Vic Robinson died Jan. 24, 2008 was interred on July 5, 2009. Volunteer recruitment is under way to get volunteers to help the Girls Scouts. Grundy Hospital received a government volunteer award during a special ceremony held Feb. 19 in Marion. 20 YEARS AGO JULY 8, 1999 Bo Schatzberg was elected Treasurer of Iowa at Boy’s State in Des Moines. Emma Creswell 106, died July 4th at Parkview. Cari Johnson & Mark Haun are planning a wedding on July 31 in Kewanee, IL. Loren Wilkinson will celebrate his 90th birthday on July 11. Mr. & Mrs. John Johannsen are parents of a son born June 6, Mr. & Mrs. Todd Scheuman are parents of a daughter born July 1, 30 YEARS AGO JULY 20, 1989 Reinbeck’s recycling services started August 11 and must now use special “Reinbeck garbage bags”. Reinbeck Class of 1979 held their 10 year class reunion on July 3. Reinbeck Class of 1944 held their 40th reunion on July 1. Robert Lorenz, 60, formerly of Reinbeck, died July 15 of heart failure. Wayne Lynch, 66, Grundy Center, died July 13 of natural causes. Wilbert Wilson, 73, died July 11. Jennie Beninga, 85, Grundy Center, died July 10. Father Edgar Koltenbach was given a farewell potluck dinner for his retirement. Mr. & Mrs. David Ehrig are parents of a son born July 16. Ann Lorenzen & Charles Flatness were married June 17. 40 YEARS AGO JULY 27, 1979 First Baptist Church has called Pastor Kenneth Wilhite to become their pastor. The new dryer building which is part of a $1,000,000 expansion project at Pioneer Hi-Bred plant is nearing the final stages of completion. Wilbur “Bill” Kielly and five other General Telephone employees were recently honored for their 25 years years of accident free services with the company. Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Venenga are parents of a daughter born July 17. Mr. & Mrs. James Rhoades, Hudson, are parents of a daughter born July 18. Mr. & Mrs. Doug Clapp are parents of daughter born July 17. Funeral services for Arthur Runft, 82, formerly of Reinbeck, were held July 23. 50 YEARS AGO JULY 24, 1969 Ray Ramsey, 70, died July 17 at U of IA. Hospital. Lucille Fawley, Dysart, narrowly escaped death when her car skidded into a flooded ditch by the Joe Greiner farm. A salesman for Pioneer noticed Mrs. Fawley foot sticking out the window. He waded into the deep ditch and pulled her out. Dennis Kroeger, 9, cut his leg severly while playing on an old flatbed wagon. The cut required 36 stitches and a cast was applied to his leg. Jeff Billerbeck showed the champion lamb and the champion pen of three market lambs at the Grundy Co. fair. Mr. & Mrs. Merle Lynch are parents of a daughter born July 21.
