10 YEARS AGO SEPT. 10, 2009 Open house for local businesses on Sept. 17-19. Whitney Lyon and Joseph Kuefler plan wedding for Oct. 24 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Todd Rickert received his five year service award for coordinator for Mental Health Departments in Tama and Grundy Counties. Reinbeck’s First Baptist Church will celebrate their 50th anniversary. Airman first class Josh Briggs graduates from basic training at Lakeland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. 20 YEARS AGO SEPT 09, 1999 Lincoln Savings Bank to purchase Cedar Falls and Hudson branches. Former sheriff Bill Martens has been named Chief of Police in Grundy Center. On August 29 members of the UCC Church dedicated a beautiful stained glass window created by Harry Beebe of Cedar Falls. Frank Schrier, 68, Hudson, was injured when the tractor he was driving flipped over on top of him. He was air lifted to Covenant Medical Center where he was listed in satisfactory condition. Doyle Coffman, 78, died at Covenant Medical Center on Sept. 4. Frederic Delagardelle, 44, Dike. died August 31 from injuries sustained in an auto-motorcycle accident near Dike. Melvin Volker, 80, Hudson, died Sept. 4 at home. Jennie Syhlman, 88, Grundy Center died Sept..1 at Grundy long term care center. Matthew Bruch, 4, New Hartford, died Sept. 2 at his home of cancer. Mr. & Mrs. Aaron McCoy, Bondarant are parents of a son born Sept. 3.

30 YEARS AGO SEPT. 21, 1989 The Reinbeck Courier will begin their 111th year of business. Marvin Billerbeck, 69, died Sept. 18 at his home. Elmer Ladehoff, 80, Gladbrook, died Sept. 11. Wm. Prehn, 79. Gladbrook. died Sept 11 of an apparent heart attack. Curt Petersen and Gina Weaver were married August 24 in Mason City. Reinbeck JC’s celebrated 25 years of service on August 25 at Elmwood Park. Sunset Tap had their last day of business on Sept. 23. 40 YEARS AGO SEPT. 27, 1979 New railroad crossing signals have been installed on Pioneer Road near the Farmers Coop. Mr. & Mrs. Donald Rhoades observed their 40th wedding anniversary. Mr. & Mrs. Don DeWolf celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Mr. & Mrs. Norbert Verduyn are parents of a son born Sept. 21 in Minneapolis. Mr. & Mrs. Dick Stephenson are parents of a daughter born Sept. 19. Dora DeGrote, 81, died at Parkview on Sept. 20.

50 YEARS AGO SEPT. 25, 1969 Reinbeck Women’s Club have completed plans for another “Parade of Homes” on Oct. 4. James Westergaard will seek re-election for Mayor. Mr. & Mrs. Stuart Petersen are parents of a daughter born Sept. 19. Mr. & Mrs. Sheridan Wrage are parents of a son born Sept. 16. Eunice Niederman and Thomas Jacobsen were married August 31 in Ayer, MA. Eileen Petersen and Edward Dams, Jr. were married Sept. 20 in Waterloo.
