Father Neal Stull, 52, Easton, KS., formerly of Grundy Center, died Sept. 27 at the home of his sister. Leon Sienknecht, 82, Reinbeck, died Oct. 5. at Westview Estates. :Leona Schellhorn Eick, 92, WAterloo, died Oct. 10 at Allen Hospital. Dan Traeger received his five year service award for serving five years in the secondary road dept. Evan Stoakes & Rebekah Zimmerman were crowned King & Queen at Homecoming. 20 YEARS AGO OCT. 14, 1999 The new county jail is progressing. Date for completion is projected to be Jan. 2000. Allison Volkens is the grand prize in the Fire Prevention Poster contest. Ruth Hoeppner, 87, Cedar Falls, formerly of Dinsdale, died Oct 6. at her home. Roger Fleming, 84, died Oct 1 in VA. Molly Thoren & Thomas Sherman were married on Sept. 4 in Des Moines. Don Schildroth will celebrate his 80th birthday on Oct. 24. 30 YEARS AGO OCT. 26, 1989 G-R cross country team qualified for state meet that was held on Oct. 27. Albert Kroeger, 89, Gladbrook. died Oct. 20 of cancer. Russell Hohnenberger, 67, died Oct. 18 Edith Bolt, 89. Traer, died Oct. 23. Dennis Gould, Mike Mennenga and Robert Petersen were elected to the board at Oakleaf Country Club. Lizzie Karkosh will celebrate her 80th birthday on Nov. 5. Mr. & Mrs. Tom Hamann, Traer, are parents of a son born Oct. 17. Mr. & Mrs. Craig Barnes are parents of an adopted son born Jan. 22. G-R football team was defeated by Garwin 21-14. 40 YEARS AGO NOV. 1, 1979 Trent Finger & Kenny Kannegieter, Aplington, died after they apparently inhaled a poisonous gas from Corn Country Beef cattle feeding operation near Reinbeck,. The Emmeritus Award for Basic Cardiac Life Support was presented to Jane Hasek. The Jr. High football team pulled out a thrilling 22-12 victory over BCL 50 YEARS AGO OCT. 30, 1969 For the 3rd time in six weeks Brandt Food Fare in Traer was broken into. Cigarettes valued at $1,085 were taken. Leland Philp 62, Traer, died of an apparent heart attack on Oct. 23. Alex Greene, 80, Traer, died of a heart attack The county sheriff raided a party held in Morrison. Twelve area youths were arrested, fined and court costs totaled nearly $500 were levied.
