Grundy County Pork Celebrates Pork Month

October 24, 2019
Reinbeck Courier
In celebration of Pork Month, Grundy County Pork Producers showed they care for the community by presenting 100 coupons worth $5 off of fresh pork to Operation Threshold. The coupons are for families in need of food assistance across Grundy County. “Grundy County Pork appreciates that Operation Threshold helps families purchase pork,” said Laura Hommel, Chair of Grundy County Pork Producers. “Pork is a nutritional and economical addition to meals.” The mission of Operation Threshold is to collaborate, educate and provide services to help meet the basic needs of people and create opportunities for self-sufficiency. The pork certificates were also sponsored by Iowa Pork Producers Association and the Pork Checkoff. Grundy County Pork Producers also showed they appreciate the efforts of Grundy County Sherriff’s Department and Engineer’s Secondary Road Department by giving pork sticks to the employees. “The Sherriff’s department works to ensure the safety of our community,” said Hommel. “The Road Department overcomes many challenges through the year to keep the roads open for livestock operations.” Pictured are (L-R): Laura Hommel, Grundy County Pork, Jodi Rowe, Operation Threshold’s Grundy County Program Manager, and Sarah Rickelman, Grundy County Pork.
