National Recognition Announced for Local Hospital

November 27, 2019
Reinbeck Courier

GRUNDY CENTER The Grundy County Memorial Hospital (GCMH) ranks among the best in the nation for Patient Experience, based on patient surveys compiled by national health care consulting firm Press Ganey. The hospital has received two 2019 Guardian of Excellence Awards for ranking in the top five percent for both Emergency Department and Outpatient services among hospitals nationwide. This marks the eleventh year in a row that the hospital has been honored.

GCMH administrator Adam Scherling says he is proud of the entire hospital team for consistently demonstrating the highest standards of care. "The awards demonstrate that our people prioritize how patients, families, and visitors are treated when they visit us for care. As health care providers, we have the unique opportunity to make a difference every day and I believe this reflects our dedication to this effort."

The hospital's surgery and patient experience leader, Jessica Eilers RN BSN, says that the eleven years of consistent achievement is remarkable. "I couldn't be any prouder of our team's accomplishment. Each person here takes great pride in putting our patients first."

The Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence award for 2019 was presented to the hospital’s Emergency Department and Outpatient services for Patient Experience in the top 5% in the nation.

Both Scherling and Eilers agree that the recognition isn't about how many awards or how many years the hospital is recognized. "It's about how our patients feel when we they leave our care. We want them to feel as if they received highly personalized care - as if they are family," remarks Eilers. Scherling emphasizes that the hospital's national recognition would not be possible without people turning to the hospital for care, and their willingness to complete a survey to share their experience. "We want to thank our patients for trusting us with their care. We are grateful for their positive feedback that has resulted in eleven years of recognition at the national level," says Scherling.

GCMH is a 25-bed critical access hospital located in Grundy Center, serving Grundy County and portions of Butler, Hardin, and Tama counties. The hospital is affiliated with Grundy County, with UnityPoint Health Waterloo, and the UnityPoint Health system. Press Ganey is a nationwide provider of patient experience measurement and strategic advisory solutions for health care organizations, currently serving more than 22,000 health care facilities. Close to 200 hospitals and health care organizations received 2019 Press Ganey award recognition.
